The equipment, and why it matters to you
Technology is only worth mentioning if it changes something for the person in the chair. Here is what we use and what each piece actually does for you.
Digital X-rays
Around 80% less radiation than the film they replaced, and the image is on the screen in seconds. You look at the same picture the dentist is looking at.
Cone beam CT
A 3D scan of your jaw. It is what makes implant placement precise, because we can see exactly where the bone and the nerve sit before anything starts.
Intraoral scanner
A digital impression instead of a tray of putty. Faster, more accurate, and nobody gags. Crowns, aligners and night guards are all made from it.
Intraoral camera
A small camera that shows you the tooth we are talking about, magnified. It is the difference between being told you need a filling and seeing why.
Ultrasonic scalers
Used during cleanings and gum treatment. Quicker and more comfortable than hand scaling alone, particularly below the gumline.
Guided implant surgery
The 3D scan is turned into a surgical plan, so the implant goes exactly where it was designed to go rather than where it looked right on the day.
What this changes for you
Better equipment is not the point. Fewer appointments, less guesswork and being able to see what we see is the point.
- You see your own X-rays and photographs, not a description of them
- Impressions take minutes and involve no putty
- Implant cases are planned from your actual anatomy, not an estimate
- Complex work is planned before you are in the chair, so appointments are shorter
Common questions
Are digital X-rays safe?
They use roughly 80% less radiation than traditional film, and we only take the images we actually need for your treatment.
Do I still have to bite into putty?
No. Impressions are taken with a digital scanner, which takes a few minutes and is the part patients most often say they were dreading for no reason.
Why does an implant need a 3D scan?
Because a flat X-ray cannot show how thick the bone is or exactly where the nerve runs. The scan is what lets us place the implant precisely, and it is free at your consultation.
